Check the current pickup arrangements
UCO’s November 24, 2025 collection guidance listed Friday bulk pickup for all areas, with items placed beside the dumpster late Thursday evening or very early Friday. That guidance predates the provider change.
Confirm the current day, set-out time, accepted items, and placement with your association or UCO before disposal. This page does not confirm that every former collection arrangement continued after October 1.
Do not leave items out all week or assume a missed pickup means they should remain indefinitely. Ask for instructions, especially during holidays, storms, or service changes.
A clean community starts with a considerate plan.
Before you put a bulk item outside
- Ask whether the item is accepted. Describe what you have, its size, and whether it came from ordinary household use or a renovation.
- Confirm the approved location. Use the collection area your association identifies. Do not choose a roadside, lawn, parking space, or neighboring association’s dumpster area on your own.
- Wait for the correct set-out time. Arrange delivery or moving help around the confirmed collection schedule.
- Keep the route clear. Do not block dumpster access, sidewalks, stairs, exits, fire equipment, accessible routes, or visibility for drivers.
- Get help with heavy items. Arrange safe assistance rather than dragging or lifting furniture beyond your ability.
- Check what happened. If an item is left behind, contact the association or manager promptly to identify the reason and next step.
Residents using walkers, canes, wheelchairs, and mobility scooters need clear paved routes. A pile that looks easy to walk around may force someone into traffic or onto uneven ground.
Different materials need different arrangements
| Material | Recommended next step |
|---|---|
| Furniture & large household items | Confirm acceptance, item limits, pickup day, and designated placement. Consider donation if the item is suitable and an organization accepts it. |
| Appliances | Ask about preparation and whether special collection is needed. Do not dismantle refrigerant equipment yourself. |
| Carpet & padding | Ask for current cutting, rolling, bundling, and weight instructions. An oversized roll may require a different collection arrangement. |
| Mirrors, large glass & sharp items | Request specific handling instructions. Do not leave exposed sharp edges or break glass in the collection area. |
| Cabinets, tile, drywall & other renovation debris | Arrange approved removal with the contractor. Do not assume household bulk collection covers construction waste. |
| Paint, chemicals, batteries & hazardous materials | Use appropriate disposal programs. Check SWA guidance and facility instructions. |
| Electronics & unusual items | Check the accepted disposal or recycling option before leaving them outdoors. |
County curbside guidelines for other residential properties may differ from Century Village’s containerized collection service. Verify the rules that apply to your location.
Renovation debris is not ordinary bulk trash
UCO’s 2025 containerized-collection guidance directed contractors or handymen to remove remodeling debris daily and prohibited construction debris and bulk items in garbage dumpsters. Verify the current service rules before a project begins.
Make debris removal part of the written renovation or contractor plan. Identify who will haul it, where any temporary container can be placed, what approvals are needed, and how common areas will be protected.
For appliance deliveries, ask in advance whether the retailer will remove the old appliance. A planned haul-away may avoid an extra pickup and an obstructed collection area.
What an effective board can do
- Post current collection guidance where residents will see it.
- Include disposal instructions in welcome packets and renovation approvals.
- Identify a contact for missed pickups and special collections.
- Monitor access and recurring trouble spots.
- Document requests, collection problems, and any additional service costs.
Use factual reminders and consistent procedures. When material is improperly left outside, arrange safe resolution and determine responsibility through the association’s applicable process.
Can extra pickup costs be charged to an owner?
Do not assume every extra expense can automatically be added to an owner’s account. Verify authority under the governing documents and applicable law, preserve evidence, and follow required procedures. Obtain legal advice where responsibility or collection authority is disputed.
Clear instructions prevent avoidable costs.
Authority & scope of rulesContract purchasingMissed pickup or a large cleanup?
Contact your association or property manager first to confirm the collection arrangement. Provide the association name, exact location, item description, set-out date, and a photo when helpful.
For special collections, ask whether advance authorization is required, what service is available, and who is responsible for payment. Avoid assuming the regular pickup includes a large move-out or renovation cleanup.

Keep one current collection instruction sheet
Board Synergy recommended practice After a provider change, have the manager confirm the service details in writing and date the association’s resident notice. Retain the confirmation so future directors can distinguish a current instruction from an old flyer.
- Regular service: pickup days, holidays, approved set-out windows, container locations, and accepted materials.
- Exceptions: special-collection authorization, preparation requirements, missed pickups, and charges.
- Contractors: project debris removal, staging permission, and the association contact who can resolve an obstruction.
- Follow-up: report date, location, service reference, person assigned, and outcome.
Contractual duty / service procedure The provider notice identifies a change of company, not every term of collection. Confirm the applicable service agreement and instructions. For misuse, follow the UCO LCAM parking and dumpster guide; neither a cleanup invoice nor a complaint automatically authorizes a fine or owner charge.
