What is a vehicle barcode?
A vehicle barcode is an access credential used at Century Village’s barcode entrance lanes. UCO administers the barcode service. Keeping its associated resident and vehicle information current helps the access process work reliably.
A barcode should not be treated as permission to rent a unit, approve an occupant, or claim a parking space. Ask your association about parking and occupancy requirements.
Before you visit UCO
- Bring your Century Village ID.
- Bring current vehicle registration. UCO requires the resident name on the registration and CV ID to match, without exception.
- Bring cash if you need a sticker. UCO lists a $10 charge for a new or replacement barcode; updates are free.
- Use barcode desk hours. These end earlier than general office hours.
- Confirm unusual circumstances first. Call about a name mismatch, vehicle ownership issue, or other eligibility question before making the trip.

Eligibility, limits & keeping it current
UCO’s published Barcode Desk handout states:
- A unit may have a maximum of two barcodes.
- Leased vehicles qualify when registered in the resident’s name. Rental cars registered to the rental company and company/business vehicles do not qualify.
- Owners update barcode information when vehicle registration renews. Renters and other occupants also update it when their CV ID is updated.
- Stickers have no fixed lifespan; weather, washing, and damage can affect them. A worn sticker may require paid replacement.
For a new vehicle, changed registration, changed residency, or an expired credential, ask UCO what must be updated. Avoid assuming that a working sticker means all associated records are current.
If your barcode stops working
UCO directs residents with failed barcodes to its office for an update or replacement. Its handout warns against repeated use of a failing barcode in the barcode lane and identifies the staffed security entrance as an alternative using a CV ID. Follow security staff instructions.
- Note when and where the failure occurred.
- Check the dates and names on your ID and registration.
- Contact the Barcode Desk and describe the problem.
- Bring the required documents for the visit.
The handout says stickers are not affixed in the rain and recommends arriving at least ten minutes before the desk closes.
Keep entrance lanes safe
Approach slowly, watch for pedestrians and stopped vehicles, and allow the vehicle ahead to clear. Avoid following another vehicle through a closing gate. If access fails, follow staff directions rather than backing into traffic or trying to force entry.
How associations can help
A brief welcome packet can prevent confusion about who provides each service. Give new residents links to UCO’s barcode instructions, WPRF’s ID information, and your association’s parking and occupancy procedures.
Explain the sequence
Encourage residents to complete applicable occupancy approvals, obtain their resident ID, and check vehicle documentation before seeking barcode service.
Refer exceptions to UCO
Board members should not promise a barcode or an exception to UCO’s eligibility rules. Direct the resident to the office for a decision.
Suggested welcome-packet wording: “For a vehicle barcode, check UCO’s current document requirements and desk hours. For a CV ID, contact WPRF. For association parking or occupancy questions, contact our board or property manager.”
Clear information helps everyone get home safely.
