Swimming Pools

A place to swim, exercise, relax, and connect—with a little preparation and consideration for everyone sharing the water.

Indoor, outdoor, and exercise options

Cenvill Recreation’s West Palm Beach information confirms indoor and outdoor pools among the recreational amenities. Century Village’s published welcome materials describe clubhouse swimming pools, a Hastings pool and resistance-walking pool, and satellite pools.

Main Clubhouse

A convenient starting point for pool information and the ID Office. The clubhouse is at 200 Century Boulevard.

Hastings and satellite pools

Ask WPRF which locations and activities suit your needs, including resistance walking, swimming, and scheduled water exercise.

The September 2023 welcome guide lists satellite locations including Camden, Kent, Dorchester, Somerset, and Southampton. Treat this as orientation rather than a complete current directory. Confirm operating status, eligibility, hours, and class schedules before visiting.

Enjoy the amenities. Respect the community.

Who manages the pools?

UCO’s official resource page identifies WPRF as the manager of recreational facilities, including pools, and resident ID cards. For a WPRF pool question, start with the Main Clubhouse at 561-640-3120.

Do not assume every pool in or near the Village has identical ownership, access rights, or management. If a pool is separately operated by an association or another entity, confirm that operator’s rules and responsibilities.

Gate entry and pool eligibility are different. Admission to the Village does not automatically establish a visitor’s right to use a particular pool.

Check the rules before you swim

Follow the current rules posted at the facility and instructions from its operator. Do not rely on an old newspaper notice for present hours or guest permissions.

Residents should explain the rules to visiting family and guests in advance. A seasonal renter should resolve approval and ID arrangements before expecting access.

Practical precautions for older residents

Before or during your visitRecommended precaution
Walking on the deckMove carefully on wet surfaces, use suitable footwear, and keep routes clear for walkers and mobility aids.
Entering and leaving the waterUse designated steps, rails, or available accessibility equipment according to instructions. Ask for assistance when needed.
Swimming or exerciseChoose an activity suited to your ability. Consider going with a companion; do not assume a lifeguard is present.
Heat and exertionTake breaks, use shade, and follow any personal medical advice about activity and hydration.
Thunder or lightningLeave the water and follow closure instructions. Wait for the operator’s direction before returning.
Unexpected symptomsStop activity and seek assistance. Call 911 for a medical emergency.

Keep away from damaged drains or fittings and report them immediately. Respect barriers and closures even when the pool looks inviting.

These are general safety recommendations, not a replacement for facility rules or individualized medical guidance.

Take your time. Give others room. Swim safely.

Water exercise and resistance walking

Water activities can be an appealing way to stay active and socialize. The Village’s amenity information describes a resistance-walking pool; ask WPRF about its current use instructions and available classes.

Before joining, ask about water depth, entry arrangements, pace, equipment, and supervision. If you have balance concerns, recent surgery, or health restrictions, discuss the activity with your clinician.

Scheduled class time and open swimming may have different arrangements. Confirm the calendar rather than assume an activity is available whenever the pool is open.

Report maintenance and safety concerns promptly

Examples include a loose handrail, broken gate, slippery surface, damaged deck, unusual water appearance, missing safety equipment, or an accessibility obstruction.

  1. Identify the pool. Give the location and precise area of concern.
  2. Describe what you observed. Include the date and time; take a photograph only if safe and respectful of others’ privacy.
  3. Contact the operator. For WPRF facilities, call the Main Clubhouse and ask for the appropriate maintenance or supervisory contact.
  4. Keep a record. Note whom you contacted and follow up if the condition persists.

For an immediate medical emergency, call 911 and give the exact pool location. Ask someone to guide responders when safe. Do not attempt a rescue beyond your ability.

What association boards can do

If an association operates its own pool, its duties are broader. Obtain professional guidance on public-pool permitting and inspection, qualified servicing, insurance, accessibility, safety equipment, and reserve planning. Recreational facilities elsewhere in the Village do not automatically cover those duties.

Make the resident handoff easy

Board Synergy recommended practice Give new owners and renters a short pool information card: operator contact, exact pool location, where to find current rules and hours, required ID arrangements, accommodation contact, and how to report a closure or defect. Date it and link to current operator information.

Before a visit, confirm the facility’s operating status and the person’s eligibility. A map marker, an old welcome guide, or entry through the gate does not establish access rights. For a reported hazard, ask the operator who will investigate and follow up; reopening is the operator’s decision.

Protect shared water quality. CDC recommends staying out of the water when sick with diarrhea and following good hygiene before swimming. Read CDC’s healthy and safe swimming guidance alongside the operator’s rules. Do not enter cloudy water or ignore a closure.

Operator procedure / governing documents WPRF facilities follow their operator’s current instructions. An association-run pool needs its own compliance and maintenance arrangements; WPRF’s recreation operations do not transfer those responsibilities.
